Germanic Shield handle, 1 ct AD.

Reproduction of a germanic shield handle from the 1st century AD after a find from Empel (Netherlands).

It was found along with some shield edge-fittings and a shield boss.

The shield maybe was a religious deposit as Empel was a holy place of the Batavians.

There was a temple where they worshiped their god Donar (=skand. Thor, lat. Hercules Magusanus).
